About This Place

Nestled in the heart of St. Charles, Magpie's Cafe offers an inviting fine dining experience that beautifully blends the comforts of a cozy café with the elegance of a refined restaurant. Celebrated for its diverse menu and warm ambiance, Magpie’s welcomes guests with a charming setting—complete with quaint outdoor seating that invites leisurely afternoons or intimate dinners enhanced by occasional live music that fills the air with just the right touch of vibrancy.

The cuisine here is a delightful exploration of fresh, thoughtfully crafted dishes that emphasize both bold flavors and comforting familiarity. Whether you're savoring the creamy, rosemary-infused Chicken, Bacon, and Mushroom Penne or indulging in the vibrant Mediterranean Shrimp pasta, each bite reveals a harmony of ingredients expertly balanced in rich sauces. The entrees, from the zesty Lemon Artichoke Chicken swimming in a luscious lemon wine sauce to the decadently glazed Bacon Wrapped Pork Loin and the tender Beef Medallions bathed in mushroom wine sauce, are crafted to please a variety of palates, each plate bursting with aromas that beckon you to linger.

Magpie’s doesn’t stop at mains; the starters and light bites set a tone of elevated comfort. The Baked Brie and Trio of Dips—especially the divine Artichoke Butter—offer creamy, flavorful beginnings that pair perfectly with a glass of their curated white wines like the luscious House Chardonnay or the crisp, refreshing Maprecho Vino Verde. Fans of lighter fare rave about the Strawberry Crepes and the classic Caesar Salad, while those seeking indulgence will find solace in the decadent Chocolate Brownie a La Mode or the irresistibly spiced Bread Pudding.

Patrons repeatedly mention the spot’s friendly, attentive service that enhances each visit, making every meal feel personalized and special. For many, the appeal lies not just in the food but in the atmosphere: a cozy, intimate space that’s just the right size to foster genuine connection, whether with friends, family, or a special someone. Allison Stilt captures this perfectly, praising the great service paired with live music that adds a subtle soundtrack to a memorable meal.

Longtime visitors like Aspen Singleton share a nostalgic affection for Magpie’s, delighting in the tradition of bringing generations together, with menu staples like the baked potato soup and the comforting BLT standing the test of time. Meanwhile, Cheryl’s appreciation for fresh, flavorful starters such as the spinach and artichoke dip underscores the restaurant’s commitment to quality and balance.

Even with a few customers noting that some salads lean toward simplicity, the consensus remains that Magpie’s Cafe consistently delivers dishes that excite the palate and warm the heart. From the savory flatbreads loaded with Mediterranean flair to the soul-soothing Potato Soup with its velvety texture, each item invites you to slow down and savor every mouthful.

For those who consider dessert a destination in its own right, Magpie’s is a treasure trove. Mark Zeman’s glowing recommendation of the cherry crepes and chocolate fudge brownie is echoed widely, capping off a meal on a luxuriously sweet note that tempts you back for more.

Whether you’re seeking a relaxed spot for brunch, a casual lunch, or a special evening out, Magpie’s Cafe stands out as a shining example of homegrown culinary charm paired with thoughtful fine dining. It’s a place where every dish is a celebration of flavor and every visit feels like coming home.

Me and my sister have always loved coming here since we were kids and it still doesn’t disappoint we started bringing my niece now and she loves it just as much! I love the yes honey! And baked potato soup while my sister got the chicken salad sandwich with the same soup and my niece got a blt with soup we all got the half and half deal and on cold days I highly recommend their hot coco and hersheys pie!!!

What a beautiful afternoon and what a wonderful lunch! The spinach and artichoke dip was fantastic! Loved the hint of lemon! The quiche and salad was quite tasty and satisfying. The house roast beef looked delicious, though I wasn’t allowed to taste. My husband wasn’t sharing today! We will be back!!!

The salads were surprisingly underwhelming but the rest of the food we ordered was phenomenal! We got a flatbread, the trio of dips, the potato soup with side salad, and a southwest chicken salad. Both salads were very plain and flavorless. The flatbread and potato soup were excellent! I think our favorite was the dip trio, the butter artichoke was fabulous! Fudge brownie was a nice post lunch treat. Absolutely gorgeous patio!

Quaint, cozy cafe with a good menu of sandwiches, salads, flatbread pizza and pasta. The smallness of the space lends to the intimacy; the food was good and the waitstaff friendly and attentive. Don't leave without having dessert (or skip your meal and have dessert instead!). I recommend the chocolate fudge brownie or the cherry crepe. During the summer, there is occasionally live music on the patio -- wonderful!

Quaint little eatery on main street. Mostly outdoor seating but there are plenty of tables inside too. The food was excellent and the service was friendly. We went on a Friday evening and got in quickly.
